  • Welcome!

  • Welcome to Blogging Malawi, the official online source for up-to-the-minute news and exclusives. There are big things happening at Raising Malawi, and this space will be regularly updated with all the latest info, insights from experts, and calls to action.

It’s been an incredibly exciting and very productive couple of months, and it’s all culminating with the world premiere of the stunning new documentary film
    I AM BECAUSE WE ARE.

Raising Malawi co-founder Madonna wrote and produced I AM BECAUSE WE ARE to give voice to the children of a country decimated by AIDS, poverty, and tragic indifference. As the film’s narrator she bears witness to the heart-wrenching ravages of disease and despair in Malawi, but also provides a voice of reason and a cry for sustainable change. First time director Nathan Rissman’s unflinching lens bares the wounds of a country with more than a million orphans, but also reveals the beauty and resilience of a people on the rise. I AM BECAUSE WE ARE is one of the most highly anticipated films set to debut at this year’s TriBeCa Film Festival in NYC on April 24th.

But that’s not nearly all. Along with the launch of a gorgeous new website, we’ve got a number of new projects in the works. One of the most exciting is the Raising Malawi Academy for Girls. We’ll also be starting up a brand new volunteer program, and continuing to provide real sustainable solutions to a dire, but entirely preventable, humanitarian crisis.

How does it all get done? We owe it to the passion and commitment of a vast army of supporters, donors, and volunteers. They come from every walk of life, from around the world, but have one thing in common. They all believe that raising one of the world’s poorest nations from the throes of despair is imperative, and that empowering the children of that country will break the cycle of disease and poverty in which they’ve been too long trapped. We send out big thanks to every one of them.

If you would like to get involved…well the truth is that, whether you know it or not, you’re already involved. The future of the children of Malawi is everybody's business.

So if you’ve come to save the world, you’re in the right place.

    Welcome!
