Malawi lacks the necessary resources to provide every child with an adequate education.

Disease decimated a generation of adults, leaving more vacant teaching positions that adults are able to fill them. And even where schooling is available, poverty prevents many children from attending classes due to school expenses.

Gender issues also contribute to the education crisis in Malawi. Cultural norms put girls at a disadvantage in achieving the most basic level of education. Many girls also leave school due to pregnancy or to care for younger siblings.

The Solution

Raising Malawi is committed to building schools and making education accessible to all children, regardless of gender. With your support, the organization can continue to:

• Create and renovate primary and secondary schools throughout the country.
• Promote gender-balanced education by providing scholarships and scholastic materials to children in need.
• Complete the construction of Raising Malawi Academy for Girls, an all-girls boarding school, by 2011.
