HIV/AIDS + Disease

The HIV/AIDS epidemic continues to plague Malawi. The national rate of infection among adults remains near 12%, due in large part to a lack of education. Nearly 67,000 people die of AIDS each year—enough people to fill an average stadium.

HIV/AIDS has had a particularly devastating impact on children. A 2008 UNAIDS report estimated 640,000 children are orphaned because they’ve lost both parents to the disease.
